The Shop Crew of the Friends of the Nevada Southern Railway are the all around personal of the operation. Whenever something needs fixing, you can be sure that the job will be done in a timely and effecient manner by our volunteer staff! Those willing to join will learn a variety of mechanical skills, and an even deeper history of the railroad and our equipment!

You do not need to have any mechanical aptitude to help! Just show up and be willing to learn!

We typically meet Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8AM at our maintenance facility, which is across the street from the Display Pavilion. Depending on the project, work will last till around 2PM, with a 45 minute lunch time around noon.

Requirements include: 

Minimum Age: 16 Years Old

Must be able to understand and speak English.

You have a pair of work clothes that you can change into in our locker room. This includes an old shirt you don't mind getting dirty, as well as an old pair of pants. 

Have a pair of composite toed shoes at minimum (steel toed shoes and boots fine as well).

Don't wear any jewlery or accessories that dangle and could get caught in rotating equipment.

Maintenance

All our equipment, from our locomotives to our golf carts, require maintenance. The locomotives need to be greesed and watered before firing up, and equipment needs to be regularly tested before operating on our rails. Examples of Maintenance Projects include but are not limited to:

As a railroading museum, more of our artifacts come in various conditions, but on a very large size. Restoration of certain pieces of equipment can take years, but we strive towards preserving our . Examples of Restoration Projects include but are not limited to:
