Scholars from all over the world visit NSMLV to study our extensive natural history, biology, geology, archaeology, and paleontology collections. We also are home to the Nevada's state fossil, a Shonisaurus popularis ichthyosaur. Researchers should contact 702-822-8737 for more information.

In the spring of 2015, paleontologists from UNR and the Smithsonian came to the museum to begin digital scans of our ichthyosaur. Paige, a student at UNR, is seen here with a front ichthyosaur flipper.

Here's Neil, from the Pyenson Lab at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, with a back ichthyosaur flipper.
