The photograph shows the traditional style of headdresses worn by men. The eagle feathers of the headdresses invoke the eagle's connection to the Above World. The feathers of other spiritually important birds such as magpies and hawks were also used. By this date denim Levis had largely replaced the traditional eagle-down "kilts."
