Family Fun Saturday In The Discovery Lab, Featuring Pines Are Fine (1:00 pm)
Learn how to tell a pine from a fir or a spruce. Study cones and needles in the Discovery Lab and learn how Native Americans processed pine nuts. Make a pine needle angel just in time for the holidays. Choose art or the Discovery Lab or both. Each activity lasts 30 minutes. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Free with regular paid admission: $8 for adults, free for members and children 17 and under.

Holiday Open House (10:00 am)
On December 15, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Lost City Museum will host its annual holiday open house. This free event will feature live entertainment. Light refreshments will be served. The museum will be decorated in festive, holiday fashion.

Behind The Scenes Tours In Natural History (10:00 am)
Join Curator of Natural History, Dr. George Baumgardner, for a tour "behind the scenes" to see natural history specimens not on display, get a sneak peak at the Discovery Lab, and learn more about future plans for natural history exhibit development. Demonstration Of Coin Press No. 1 (10:30 am)
See the original press from the Carson City Mint, Coin Press No. 1, in action stamping out commemorative medallions in .999 fine silver, with the famous CC Mint Mark on the reverse. Volunteer Ken Hopple serves as Chief Coiner, assisting Curator of History, Robert Nylen. Medallions can be purchased in the Museum Store or at the press.
Regular admission fee applies: $8 for adults; free for members and children 17 and under. Nylen and Hopple break for lunch from 12-1 pm; otherwise the press operates from approximately 10:30 am - 3 pm.
