Beastly Encounters: Animals Of Nevada (1:00 pm)

Celebrate Family Fun Saturday in the Discovery Lab with Beastly Encounters. Observe skulls and scat in the lab and tracks and feet in our classroom and make a bookmark decorated with animal tracks to take home. Each activity lasts 30 minutes.  Free with regular admission fee: $8 for adults and free for museum members and children 17 and under.  See Nevada State Museum, Carson City programs and events page for details.

Behind The Scenes Tours In Natural History (10:00 am)

Join Curator of Natural History, Dr. George Baumgardner, for a tour "behind the scenes" to see natural history specimens not on display, get a sneak peak at the Discovery Lab, and learn more about future plans for natural history exhibit development.  Advanced registration is required and tours are limited to 6 people.  Regular admission fee: $8 for adults; FREE FOR MEMBERS AND CHILDREN 17 AND UNDER.  To reserve your space, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The History Of Carson City In Pictures (6:30 pm)
The History of Carson City in Pictures by local historian Jed Block. In anticipation of the state’s sesquicentennial in 2014, local historian Jed Block offers a pictorial presentation of the Capital City. Block’s “then and now” program will highlight how Carson City has changed since its early history.

MUSEUM MEMBERS AND CHILDREN 17 AND UNDER ARE FREE; Non-Member Admission: $8 per adult. Doors open at 6 pm.

Jed Block is a third generation Nevadan, born and raised in Carson City. He graduated from Carson High School and went on to earn a B.A. in Communication from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. Jed is currently appointed to the Board of Equalization, the Carson City Historical Resources Commission, President of the Brewery Arts Center, Chairman of the Carson City Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee and the current Chairman of the Western Nevada College Foundation. He is very interested in Carson City History and has quite a collection of early Carson City images. His family owned business, State Agent and Transfer Syndicate, Inc. was formed in Carson City in 1903.
