Sept. 27 Frances Humphrey Lecture Series
The History of Carson City in Pictures by local historian Jed Block is set for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. In anticipation of the state’s sesquicentennial in 2014, Block offers a presentation of photographs of the Capital City. Block’s “then and now” program will highlight how Carson City has changed since its early history.
Sept. 28 Demonstration of Coin Press No. 1
On the last Friday of the month, see volunteer Ken Hopple operate the historic Coin Press No. 1 from 10:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. in the historic Carson City Mint building.  Contact Robert Nylen at 687-4810 ext. 245.
Day of the Dead Nov. 10
Nevada State Museum will celebrate Dia de los Muertos from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Also known as Day of the Dead, Dia de los Muertos is a multi-cultural celebration of life, through death, for entire families.  The museum will feature video, crafts, songs, dance and special exhibits.  Dance will be by colorful, folkloric groups. Crafts include decoration of sugar skulls.
Ofrendas are displays by families that include memorabilia from the departed person, with samples of favorite foods, symbols and remembrances of things people loved. Pan de Muerto is a traditional bread associated with the celebration.
