In honor of National Fossil Day (17 October 2012) Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas is holding a contest to name the museum's Columbian mammoth. The contest will run from September 10th to October 12th. The winner will receive a membership to the museum and a plush mammoth. The winner will also have his or her name included in the mammoth exhibit at NSMLV.
Contest rules:
- The contest is open to everyone, but only one entry per person
- Select a first name for the mammoth and explain why you have chosen that name:
- You may submit your suggestions in person at the museum, via Facebook, or Twitter.
- The winner will receive a membership to the museum and a plush mammoth from the museum store. (The plush mammoth is on display at the front desk)
- Curators will chose three finalists and fans will be able to vote for one of those three names on Facebook from October 15th through October 18th.
- If there are multiple winning entries then a random drawing will be held to pick a single winner.
- The winner will be announced on Friday October 19th on Facebook and via the contact information provided.
- The new mammoth name, and the name of the winner, will be added to the exhibit
