Exploring Nevada - Under One Sky PDF Print

In this episode of Exploring Nevada, you’ll discover an exciting exhibit at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City. Under One Sky tells the story of Native Americans, in the land now known as Nevada, who adapted and survived the profound cultural and environmental changes taking place in their homelands. Nevada tribal members joined with the museum to share their history with all of us. With Series Host Gwen Clancy as your on-camera guide, you’ll hear from Fallon Paiute Tribal Chairwoman Donna Cossette and Tribal Council Member Rochanne Downs, who share their perspective and from State Museum Archaeologist Gene Hattori, who addresses the museum’s commitment to representing multiple points of view.

Besides anthropology, the museum is well known for its history gallery. But space is limited, and most of the treasures are behind the scenes. So, the camera goes into the back recesses of the collection department, where History Curator Robert Nylen shows off some unusual artifcats. Natural history is also celebrated at the museum, and George Baumgardner, Curator of Natural History, is just the expert to share what he finds most intriguing in Nevada’s animal kingdom.
